History

Higher Ground Ministry began in Southern California in 1994. Originally, as a radio ministry from a local church in Orange County, it was aired weekly on Southern California stations.

Initially, Dr. Jay Miller was heard on a live call-in talk show called, “Speak Out.” After a few years as host, the weekly teaching began on Sunday mornings and was heard from San Diego to Santa Barbara.

Dr. Miller had the opportunity to meet, interview and work with a variety of individuals. Christian speakers and writers, Congressmen, a former Vice-President and celebrities, Dr. Miller was given occasions to share and talk about the faith with Christian writers Hal Lindsey, Os Guinness, and Gene Getz. He spoke about faith with celebrities like Steve Allen as well as United States Congressmen and former White House staff.

When the teaching ministry began a short time later, the name “Higher Ground” was first chosen to represent that position that we stand before Christ. Each week, messages were heard directly from the Word of God, with the purpose of bringing glory to God and help for the believer.

Higher Ground, from the beginning, sought to bring Biblical teaching into the homes, cars, and groups through the airwaves. The Scripture calls us to be “transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Not just looking for a “popular theology” but desiring to teach the “higher principles” and theology of the Christian life has been one of the aims of Higher Ground. The desire to go deeper in the Christian life should be the goal of every believer and Higher Ground wishes to help Christians accomplish that deeper walk.

With an ever changing world, we have a faith in a God who does not change. With an ever changing society, we have an unchanging Gospel. Through all of these changes, man’s nature still has not changed and still needs the salvation that can only come through Jesus Christ.

Higher Ground is a place where that unchanging God and His unchanging Gospel will be proclaimed without any compromise, but with complete faithfulness.
